Network on Privacy-Aware Audio- and Video-Based Applications Goodbrother COST action NewsletterDecember 2021Welcome to our First NewsletterWelcome to this first newsletter of the Goodbrother COST Action. The aim of GoodBrother is to increase the awareness on the ethical, legal, and privacy issues associated to audio- and video-based monitoring and to propose privacy-aware working solutions for assisted living, by creating an interdisciplinary community of researchers and industrial partners from different fields (computing, engineering, healthcare, law, sociology) and other stakeholders (users, policy makers, public services), stimulating new research and innovation. Goodbrother will offset the “Big Brother” sense of continuous monitoring by increasing user acceptance, exploiting these new solutions, and improving market reach. Goodbrother started one year ago approximately. This year has been very difficult as most activities supported by COST Actions aim at networking (meetings, training schools, short term scientific missions). The pandemic has greatly limited the possibilities for interaction and collaboration. However, in this year, Goodbrother has already been joined by more than 100 experts from 42 countries, who have collaborated online to advance in the achievement of the objectives established at the start of the Action. I would like to thank all of them for their contribution in these complicated times. These experts are organised into four Working Groups:
If you are interested in joining the Action and contributing to our activities, I invite you to
join us.
Let’s hope that activities could be carried out with normality soon.
Francisco Florez-Revuelta TABLE OF CONTENTSFirst deliverables ready Open Calls OnlineSpeak Workshops Webinars Training School First deliverable ready> Goodbrother Working Groups have been tirelessly working to create the first deliverables of the action. The first has been finished by WG1 and can be downloaded from our website at State of the art on ethical, legal, and social issues linked to audio- and videobased AAL solutions. WG2 and WG3 have their first deliverables almost ready. Stay tuned! Open Calls> A number of special issues led by Goodbrother members are open for submission, do not miss the oportunity to share your research with us and the scientific community: Sensor and Assistive Technologies for Smart Life Audio and Video-based Systems for Assisted Living, Personalized Care and Well-being Advances in Sensors for Context-Aware, Mobile and Smart Healthcare OnlineSpeak> Goodbrother opened several calls for Virtual Mobility (VM) Grants to strengthen the existing networks by allowing individual participants to foster collaboration, to exchange knowledge, to learn new techniques, etc. These VM Grants should support a better mutual understanding between experts from the different disciplines involved in Goodbrother. Participants with technological background (mainly in WG2, WG3 and WG4) should benefit from specific training on legal and ethical aspects associated to video- and audio-based AAL technologies. On the other hand, participants in WG1 should benefit from a better understanding on the latest video and audio technologies and the potential of state-of-the-art machine learning methods. The outcomes of each VM Grant will be presented into a set of videos that will be made available on our website. OnlineSpeak is a series of events in which these videos will be shown. Workshops> WG3 organises a workshop on visual intelligence for active and assisted living in conjuction with the 21st International Conference on Image Analysis and Processing on 24 May 2022, in Lecce, Italy. Check the details: https://goodbrother.eu/conferences/workshop-iciap/ For more information, please contact Sara Colantonio Webinars> The Goodbrother Action has been actively organising a number of webinars and seminars, which have been recorded and can be accessed in our Seminars website section. Training School> The Goodbrother Action will organize a training school before October 2022. We invite volunteers to express interest in organizing the training school in their country.
